有时想要知道哪位作曲家会为一部电影配乐，最简单的方法就是看导演是谁。Spielberg，Lucas经常会用John Williams；Scorsese，Fincher和Cronenberg（之前还有Jackson）会用Howard Shore；Spike Lee会用Terence Blanchard等等。

同演员们一样，作曲家也有他们擅长的角色，或者说有角色限制，你会发现他们在反复为同一类型的电影配乐。

偶尔作曲家也会被请去为自己不熟悉的电影类型配乐，有时会产生意想不到的效果，配乐受表扬影片遭批评的现象时有发生，John Barry的Howard the Duck，John Addison的Strange Invaders，Henry Mancini的Lifeforce就是例子。

有时某些大片为了影片风格需要也会解雇一些作曲家，比如Randy Newman（Air Force One），Mychael Danna（Hulk）和Gabriel Yared（Troy）。

但是大多数情况下，作曲家还是要跟着影片风格走，即便是在Golden Age（1930-1975）也一样。如果你有很好的剧本基础，你就得用Alex North（A Streetcar Named Desire，Death of a Salesman，The Rose Tattoo，The Rainmaker，The Bad Seed，All Fall Down，The Children's Hour，Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf），North有很好的剧本解读能力。

如果你要拍一部宗教题材的电影，那就用Alfred Newman（The Song of Bernadette，David and Bathsheba，The Robe，The Greatest Story Ever Told）或者Miklos Rozsa（Quo Vadis，Ben-Hur，King of Kings，Sodom and Gomorrah），他们在这方面的造诣没人能超越。

可是现在，如果你的电影中出现了上帝，那你不妨用John Debney（Bruce Almighty，The Passion of the Christ）。

如果你的电影改编自畅销书，你就用John Williams（The Accidental Tourist，Presumed Innocent，Jurassic Park，Sleepers，The Lost World，Angela's Ashes，Harry Potter 1，2，3，Memoirs of a Geisha）。

如果是改编自Charles Dickens的小说，那就用Rachel Portman（Nicholas Nickleby，Oliver Twist）。

如果演员是Julia Roberts，那就用Newton Howard（Pretty Woman，Flatliners，Dying Young，My Best Friend's Wedding，Runaway Bride，America's Sweethearts）。当年Audrey Hepburn出演的电影配乐家多为Henry Mancini（Breakfast at Tiffany's，Charade，Two for the Road，Wait Until Dark）。

如果你想拍一部体育励志片，特别是里面有黑人运动员时，那就用Trevor Rabin（Remember the Titans，Coach Carter，Glory Road）。

如果想拍一部黑人喜剧，那就用Richard Gibbs（Dr. Dolittle，Big Momma's House，Like Mike，I Spy，My Baby's Daddy，Barbershop 2，Johnson Family Vacation，Fat Albert，The Honeymooners）。

如果你的电影是关于黑人社区的，那就用Terence Blanchard（Crooklyn，Next Friday，Get on the Bus，Eve's Bayou，Barbershop）。

如果是反映黑人反抗压迫的，那就用Christopher Young（Set It Off，The Hurricane，Beauty Shop）。

如果是表现黑人士兵的，那就用Mark Isham（Rules of Engagement，Men of Honor）。

当你的爱情片中带着一丝悲伤的话，就用Gabriel Yared（The English Patient，City of Angels，Message in a Bottle，Autumn in New York，Possession，Sylvia，Cold Mountain）。

如果你要拍一部电脑3D动画，那就用Randy Newman（Toy Story 1 & 2，A Bug's Life，Monsters，Inc.，Cars）。

但如果找不到Randy Newman，那就用John Powell（Antz，Shrek，Robots，Happy Feet）。

如果你动画片中的主人公是狮子，就用Hans Zimmer（The Lion King，Madagascar）。

如果你在拍一部著名动画的续集，不管是作为录像带还是电影发行，最好用Joel McNeely（Return to Neverland，Jungle Book II，Mulan II，Lilo & Stitch 2）。

如果你在拍一部关于漫画英雄的影片，那就用Danny Elfman（Batman 1 & 2，Dick Tracy，Darkman，Spider-Man 1 & 2，Hulk）。

但如果你找不到Danny Elfman，那就用John Ottman（X2，Fantastic Four，Superman Returns）。

如果你的电影是关于超级英雄一家的，那就用Michael Giacchino（The Incredibles，Sky High）。

如果你要拍一部关于男孩施魔法的影片，就用Patrick Doyle（Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire，Nanny McPhee）。

如果你的电影中孩子们身处特殊险境，就用John Debney（Jimmy Neutron：Boy Genius，Spy Kids 1 & 2，The Pacifier，Duma，Zathura）。

如果你的电影改编自内容黑暗的漫画，就用Graeme Revell（The Crow，Tank Girl，Spawn，Daredevil，Sin City，Aeon Flux）。

如果你根据漫画改编的电影涉及血腥恐怖，那就用Marco Beltrami（Blade II，Hellboy）。

如果你的恐怖片走的是艺术路线，就用Angelo Badalamenti（Dominion，Dark Water）。

如果你想要向70年代的经典恐怖片致敬的话，就用Tyler Bates（Dawn of the Dead，The Devil's Rejects）。

如果你影片中的主人公遭到超自然力量的威胁，那就用Christopher Young（Hellraiser 1 & 2，The Dark Half，Tales from the Hood，Bless the Child，The Grudge，The Exorcism of Emily Rose）。

如果你的恐怖片不涉及超自然现象，而片中的主人公受到心理变态者的威胁，那就用Howard Shore（The Silence of the Lambs，Single White Female，Seven，The Cell）。

如果主人公只是被一般的犯罪分子相威胁，那你还得用Howard Shore（Guilty as Sin，A Kiss Before Dying，Panic Room，A History of Violence）。

如果影片中的反面人物是机器人，就用Marco Beltrami（Terminator 3，I，Robot）。

如果你电影中的故事发生在未来，就用John Williams（The Phantom Menace，A.I.，Attack of the Clones，Minority Report，Revenge of the Sith）。

如果你请不起John Williams，但仍想表现科技的黑暗面，就用Brian Tyler（Godsend，The Final Cut）。

如果你想拍一部以年轻男性为主人公的动作片，就用John Powell（The Bourne Identity，The Italian Job，Paycheck，The Bourne Supremacy，Mr. & Mrs. Smith）。

如果你想拍一部动作喜剧片，而主角又是女性，就用Edward Shearmur（Charlie's Angels 1 & 2，Miss Congeniality）。

如果你的动作片主角是70年代电影的经典人物，那就用David Arnold（Tomorrow Never Dies，The World Is Not Enough，Shaft，Die Another Day）。

但如果你的动作片是关于大城市中的犯罪行为，就用Elliot Goldenthal（Demolition Man，Heat，SWAT）。

有时片中主人公不得不以非法的手段拯救一个受难的家庭，那就得用Alexandre Desplat（Hostage，Firewall）。

相反如果电影中白人受到不公平对待，那就用Gustavo Santaolalla（North Country，Brokeback Mountain）。

如果你要拍一部关于印度的电影，那就用Mychael Danna（Kama Sutra，Monsoon Wedding，Water）。

如果你要拍一部女性为主题的电影，那就用Rachel Portman（Used People，The Joy Luck Club，Emma，Beloved，Chocolat，Mona Lisa Smile）。

如果你要拍一部引人深思的非传统喜剧，那就用Jon Brion（Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind，I Heart Huckabee's）。

如果你喜剧中的主角受到歧视，你就用Stephen Trask（Camp，The Station Agent，In Good Company）。

如果你要拍一部带有讽刺色彩的黑色喜剧，那就用Rolfe Kent（Citizen Ruth，The Last Shot，The Matador，Thank You for Smoking）。

如果你要拍一部带有暴力因素的喜剧片，那就用John Ottman（The Cable Guy，Goodbye，Lover，Kiss Kiss，Bang Bang）。

如果你想拍一部发生在圣诞节的恶搞喜剧，特别是有Billy Bob Thornton出演时，那就用David Kitay（Bad Santa，The Ice Harvest）。

如果影片中的罪犯以正面形象出现时，就用David Holmes（Out of Sight，Ocean's Eleven，Twelve，Analyze That）。

但如果影片中的罪犯并不像你想象得那么有趣，那就用John Murphy（Lock，Stock & Two Smoking Barrels，Snatch，All About the Benjamins，The Man）。

如果你的喜剧片是关于俩年轻人追女孩的，就用David Kitay（The Stoned Age，Dude，Where's My Car？Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle）。

如果你的喜剧女主角是Reese Witherspoon，那就用Rolfe Kent（Election，Legally Blonde 1 & 2，Just Like Heaven）。

如果你的喜剧男主角是Ben Stiller，那就用Theodore Shapiro（Dodgeball，Along Came Polly，Starsky & Hutch）。

如果喜剧片主角是小甜甜的接班人Hilary Duff，就用Christophe Beck（Cheaper by the Dozen，A Cinderella Story，Ice Princess，The Perfect Man）。

如果你没找到Hilary Duff，但是你却有一群女孩，你就得用Cliff Eidelman（Now and Then，The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants）。

如果你的青春喜剧片比较正经，又不期望高回报，那就用 David Kitay（Clueless，Ghost World）。

但如果你的喜剧片的主角是一群孩子，那就用Mark Mothersbaugh（The Rugrats Movie，Rugrats in Paris，The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle，Good Boy！，Herbie：Fully Loaded）。

如果你的电影是关于一个不正经的大家庭，就用Christophe Beck（Cheaper by the Dozen，Yours，Mine & Ours）。

如果你要拍一部爱情喜剧，有不对票房太在乎的话，那就用Craig Armstrong（Love，Actually，Fever Pitch，Must Love Dogs）。

如果你又希望票房看涨的话，那样的爱情喜剧还得找George Fenton（You've Got Mail，Sweet Home Alabama，Hitch，Bewitched）。

如果片中出现高速的交通工具，就用BT（Driven，The Fast and the Furious，Stealth）。

如果你想拍一部海上灾难片，或者其中出现海啸的电影，就用James Horner（Titanic，Deep Impact，The Perfect Storm）。

如果你想揭露娱乐业中的黑暗面，就用Mychael Danna（Exotica，8mm，Capote，Where the Truth Lies）。

如果你想拍一部关于艺术家内心世界的影片，就用Stephen Warbeck（Shakespeare in Love，Quills，Billy Elliot，Proof）。

如果影片涉及同性恋话题，就用Angelo Badalamenti（Blue Velvet, ，The Comfort of Strangers，Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me，Holy Smoke，Mulholland Drive，Secretary，Auto Focus）。

如果是发生在过去的两性题材影片，就用Michael Nyman（The Draughtsman's Contract，The Piano，Carrington，The End of the Affair，The Libertine）。

如果影片是为了展现美国历史，就用Randy Newman（Ragtime，The Natural，Avalon，Seabiscuit）。

如果你的目标是夺得奥斯卡奖，就请用James Horner（The Dresser，Field of Dreams，In Country，Dad，Glory，Legends of the Fall，Braveheart，Apollo 13，Titanic，Iris，A Beautiful Mind，House of Sand and Fog，The New World，All the King's Men）。

但如果你真的一心想获奖，你就得用Thomas Newman（Fried Green Tomatoes，The Player，Scent of a Woman，The War，Little Women，How to Make an American Quilt，Oscar & Lucinda，The People vs. Larry Flynt，The Horse Whisperer，American Beauty，Erin Brockovich，Pay It Forward，In the Bedroom，Road to Perdition，White Oleander，Cinderella Man，Jarhead）。特别当影片改编自Stephen King监狱题材的小说（The Shawshank Redemption，The Green Mile）时更得用他。

如果你在重拍John Carpenter的早期恐怖片，最好用Graeme Revell（Assault on Precinct 13，The Fog），理由不必多说。
