卡拉扬100周年纪念专辑

这是一套不得不发布的专辑。
2008年是伟大的指挥家Herbert von Karajan诞生100周年纪念,DG、EMI等唱片公司纷纷以醒目而隆重的“Karajan 100”或“Karajan 2008”等主题,推出了一系列的录音和录像专辑,盛况空前。
作为一名卡拉扬最忠实的听者和音乐爱好者,这一年来说对我来说意义非凡。在我的心目中,卡拉扬不仅是指挥家的象征,他还是一位音响技术的先驱者,是唱片录音事业的推动者,是将高雅的古典音乐推向世界的各个角落和世人的各个阶层的传教士,还是培养和教育了一代又一代音乐家的教父。
然而,对于我来说,卡拉扬的精神和人格,才是最宝贵的财富。他钢铁一般的意志力和永不衰竭的对生命的热爱,给予我和千千万万奋斗和追求的人无尽的鼓励和动力。他不但是音乐殿堂的神圣,他更是精神世界的偶像和榜样!
和其他伟大的人物一样,卡拉扬身上并无例外的聚集了很多有争议的元素。从他的纳粹身份,还有他“完美”的音色,直到他对音响技术的爱好和推崇,都曾遭到很多人的非议和批评。不过争议最集中的论题,是他与另一位伟大的指挥家——福特文格勒的种种话题,这也是我以前非理性的崇拜卡拉扬时最爱和其他音乐爱好者争辩的问题。
可是,理性和冷静的看待卡拉扬,我们不难得出这样的一个共同结论:卡拉扬是一位伟大的指挥家。从他的历史地位来讲,我认为他上承20世纪上半叶托斯卡尼尼和福特文格勒等众多指挥巨头的伟大传统,下启以伯恩斯坦和索尔蒂为代表的20世纪下半叶指挥界的盛世繁荣,二战前和二战时音乐家悲壮和激昂的气势,以及二战以后古典音乐录音和唱片的飞速发展所带来的辉煌而华丽的色彩,在卡拉扬的身上都有完美的体现。
诚然,我们不可能期望一个音乐家受到所有人的喜爱,卡拉扬也不例外。不过我相信,这个系列的发布,会让更多不了解卡拉扬的人,有机会领略他的大师风范。也让喜爱卡拉扬的朋友,得以欣赏他更多的绝世经典的录音。当然,最重要的,我们要感谢卡拉扬为我们留下这么多宝贵的精神财富,并在他诞生100周年之际,向这位真正的大师致以最高的敬意和最深切的怀念。
在本系列的每一集的专辑介绍中,我不再以专辑曲目或是录音为中心,而会围绕卡拉扬的主题,谈谈我自己的看法,或是转载、翻译一些有价值的关于卡拉扬的短文,让这个系列的发布不仅让大家一饱耳福,更能成为卡拉扬爱好者的交流之地。所以,我非常期待与大家共同度过一个美好的卡拉扬之年。

《瓦特·莱格的回忆》
“维也纳爱乐给我打电话告诉我俄国人已下令禁止卡拉扬登台,音乐会也取消了。我赶紧给卡拉扬打电话,说这消息遗憾之至,问他是否愿意跟我共进午餐,我们好好谈谈这事。卡拉扬说很抱歉,他正要睡觉,但下午四点可以见我。就这样,下午四点我感到了约定的地点。我知道当时维也纳物资供应奇缺,特地给他带去了一瓶威士忌,一瓶杜松子酒和一瓶雪莉酒。多年后他告诉我,那晚我走后,他把每瓶酒各分成30份,从第二天起的90天每天享用一份,当晚则尝都没尝一口……他这个人就是如此,意志如钢铁般坚强。”
“他的居住条件差到极点,在一座街区的公寓八楼上同一个不相识的人共住一个房间。我们开始了交谈。我试图把谈话引向业务讨论,但他却明显地只想闲聊闲聊。很可能因为他已有太长时间不曾与人交谈了……我们差不多天天见面,关于合同的谈判延续了6个月……他并不急于签约,尽管他既无钱又无工作,甚至连工作的可能性都没有。我从未见过任何人能像他那样,处在那样的境况下内心仍那么宁静、那么泰然自若……我们的合作为卡拉扬名利双收奠定了基础……也许除斯托科夫斯基外,他比任何别的指挥从唱片得益都多,可以说是留声机唱片造就了他……”

《小泽征尔对卡拉扬的回忆》
“指挥这部歌剧要达到他这样的水准,非花五十年工夫不可。卡拉扬的天才一方面表现在他出众的记忆力,能评记忆指挥这部作品实在是难以置信,另一方面就是他创造的乐音。他与维也纳爱乐乐团的配合可以说是相得益彰,在乐音效果的创造中维也纳爱乐乐团付出百分之九十五,他只须付出百分之五。他了解其中的每个角色、每句唱词。这可不是晒晒太阳就能办到的。”
“卡拉扬至少熟悉五十部歌剧的每一处细节,他能在从熟睡中被唤醒的情况下,立即从五十部歌剧的任何一处开始指挥。”
“排练时,他喜欢坐在音乐厅的十六排位置上,身旁坐满了他的主要工作副手。他就象一位帝王般,控制着舞台上排练所有细节的精确进行,不容有一丝差错。”
“有一次排练《漂泊的荷兰人》,他不满意剧中帆船的进出,终于忍不住步履蹒跚地走入后台,往后的十几分钟里,我们看到帆船的表现越来越好,原来卡拉扬到后台亲自示范操作帆船的布景。”

《关于卡拉扬与他的乐手》
卡拉扬向朋友们抱怨纽约大都会乐团的演奏水准真是糟透了,而在排练中卡拉扬又是什么态度呢?一位团员讲,他确信卡拉扬是真诚喜欢他们的,他对乐团表示出极大的尊重。“这其实是一种职业修养”,这位合伙人说,“在表演艺术中,你必须善于和资质平平的人合作,从而获得良好的演出效果。卡拉扬知道怎样做。换了托斯卡尼尼,他会骂那些团员是蠢猪,大发一通脾气,把弦乐部统统换掉。卡拉扬却采取积极的态度使问题得以解决。他知道他无法改变团员,他只能善用他们。”

CD 04 -贝多芬第五和第八交响曲

《卡拉扬的宗教观》
卡拉扬当时认识了一位英国朋友,当时英国驻苏黎士的外交官埃奇·莱斯利(Edge Leslie)。卡拉扬曾对他说:“我愿意付出任何代价,只要能得到亚琛那份工作。”他回忆说:“卡拉扬有一种强烈的使命感,这一点我们必须理解。有一次我在他的公寓接他出来吃饭,他外出散步去了,留了个字条叫我等他。他房间摆的都是些宗教方面的书籍,有些段落划了线,页边空白处还有他潦草的字迹做的批注。他回来后我问他为什么读这些东西,他对我说:上帝的存在是事实,有无数的迹象可资证明,而不在于人们心诚与否。莫扎特还是个孩子时就写出了交响曲。那可跟遗传挨不上边。卡拉扬说。唯一的解释是:造物主选择了某些人执行他的命令,为这个丑陋的世界创造美。‘我被赋予了特殊的工具,’卡拉扬对我说,‘特出的才能。我从不怀疑我的才能是造物主的赐予。我的责任就是让它得到最充分的发挥。我立志要创造尽可能完美的音乐并把它奉献给尽可能多的人。我要把音乐般上银幕。’”

CD 05 - 莫扎特第33交响曲&舒伯特第九交响曲

《卡拉扬对于他入纳粹党的看法》
“跟你说,对这个问题我是这么做比较的。我特别爱滑雪。我的陪同是一位奥地利向导,无论去哪儿滑雪我都带着他。有一回我们去瑞士的一座山,到那儿后人家却告诉我,除非加入当地的瑞士登山俱乐部,雇佣瑞士向导,否则不准在该山滑雪。我想在那儿滑雪,所以我说管他妈的什么条件都无所谓,于是我买了个会员资格并雇了个瑞士向导。对我来说,参加纳粹党也跟这事一样是迫于无奈。”
“摆在我面前的那张入纳粹党申请等于是一道门槛,跨过它就意味着可以得到无限的权力和对乐团的资助,我就可以无拘无束地指挥音乐会,还有旅行演出,可以有自己的秘书和办公室,我就快活得如登天堂。条件则是必须入党,还有不时地为党员们来一场演出。于是我说管他妈的什么条件都无所谓,并在申请上签了字。可叹的是从此人们便说:‘你当然是个纳粹。’”

CD 06 - 莫扎特弦乐小夜曲&第39交响曲

monosolo - 卡拉扬伴随我的成长
在我的初中时代,刚刚接触古典音乐,那时对每一个音符都充满了好奇和崇敬。记得那时,每次听热情奏鸣曲,我都会激动很久然后就像等待一个伟大时刻的到来一样,迎接末乐章奔腾的旋律和澎湃的和声。我觉得那对于我来说简直是不可思议的壮观!在我慢慢开始深入了解古典音乐的过程中,有两个人物对我来说有特别重要的地位,一个是贝多芬,另一个就是卡拉扬。在他们身上,音乐不仅是一种事业,一种艺术,而更是一种生命的意义。他们的顽强的毅力和坚韧的性格,透过他们的音乐毫无保留的传达给了听者,而他们的传奇也鼓舞了一代甚至几代人。
我很少崇拜谁,除了这二人,也只有年龄更小的时候对邓亚萍的敬佩了。他们三个无一不是铁一般的意志和永远不会认输的性格,或许这也是我自己永远追求的目标吧。

CD 07 - 柴可夫斯基第六交响曲

专辑介绍:

monosolo - 2008年值得期待的卡拉扬录音和录像(一)
在2008年这个卡拉扬百年纪念时期,EMI、DG和SONY这三个卡拉扬的大本营,都有庞大的卡拉扬产品计划发布,其中有很多已经发行或者即将发行的录音录像,是非常具有收藏价值的。我简单做一个排名,当然这是根据我自己的标准来定位的。
在收藏价值方面,TOP1当然是日本DG发行的卡拉扬DG录音全集。全集含240CD,黑色色调,并赠送CD收藏架。乃是CD问世以来,最大最豪华的套装。其CD的枚数超过了以往曾经一度占据“巨无霸”地位的莫扎特全集和巴赫全集。该套装中附送的书册等具体内容,由于我订的货尚有几天时间才能收到,所以在收到以后再细细描述和分享吧。
其次具有收藏价值的,应该是日本SONY即将在5月份发行的卡拉扬影像遗产系列的全集(37DVD),其中包含了SONY以往发行的"Karajan - His Legacy for Home Video"系列的所有DVD,以及从未发行过的卡拉扬1984年在大阪的录像,其中的雷斯皮基的《罗马之松》据看过的人讲,极具震撼力。(注:大阪1984年录像也已经单独发行了)。37DVD全集中或许还有其他一些录像资料以前未有发行,由于产品尚未问世,现在来看也并不确定其具体的内容,但收藏价值是绝对无法忽视的。

1987年卡拉扬在萨尔茨堡音乐节的纪录片,是所有卡拉扬爱好者不得不看的经典。今年日本SONY计划首次以DVD的形式重新发行这个珍贵的录像。原定于6月21日发行的计划,现在因故推迟。这应该是有史以来大家最期望的卡拉扬的DVD产品,因为其中很多的片段展现了这位大师在生命的最后几年里,散发出的人性的魅力,和在他的手下音乐无限升华的境界。
长期以来,卡拉扬在萨尔茨堡的录像广为流传,却因为没有DVD的载体,丧失了收藏的价值。如今,无数的卡拉扬迷终于如愿以偿了。

在卡拉扬之年,另一个不得不提的巨无霸套装便是EMI发行的两卷共160CD的卡拉扬EMI录音全集,也是这里正在为大家更新的系列。在制作方面,EMI显然不如日本DG做得精致完美,在录音的规模上也远远赶不上DG的240大全集,但是EMI的很多卡拉扬录音的珍贵之处在于三点:
第一,卡拉扬早期的一些经典录音,是后来难以超越的。比如40年代的勃拉姆斯德意志安魂曲,巴赫的B小调弥撒都是他的成名之作,有着特殊的地位和高度。
第二,卡拉扬的歌剧录音,精品大多都在EMI,包括他与卡拉斯合作的一系列歌剧,以及他有名的纽伦堡名歌手,都收录在这套全集的歌剧部分。
第三,卡拉扬的EMI录音中有许多都早已在市面上绝迹,在这里有很多录音对于不少听者来说都是在这个时代可以收集到的唯一的版本。

在录像方面,还有值得一提的是,DG以DVD的形式发行了卡拉扬不少的录像资料,比如70年代录制的贝多芬全集,勃拉姆斯交响乐全集,还有柴可夫斯基的四五六交响乐,布鲁克纳交响乐,以及珍贵的音乐会录像,当然还有珍贵的纪录片。
卡拉扬70年代的指挥风范可以说是最为率真和洒脱的,动作流畅潇洒,音乐气势磅礴充满着动感。我最喜欢看的就是他70年代的音乐会录像,可惜我最为期待的他指挥威尔第的命运之力序曲,苏佩的轻骑兵序曲以及比才的阿莱城姑娘组曲的录像,仍然没有发行DVD。希望有一天DG可以将这些珍贵的录像,再次推向市场,让更多的朋友大饱眼福。

第一卷 1938-1943

总共6CD的卷一收录了卡拉扬早期在Polydor公司录制的所有录音,时间从1938年一直延续到1943年,这些也是指挥家中的唱片帝王卡拉扬最早的一批录音。
在这一批录音里,交响乐和其他曲目基本是各占一半。1939年4月15日录制的柴可夫斯基第六交响乐是卡拉扬的第一个完整的交响乐录音,同随后几年录制的德沃夏克第九、贝多芬第七、莫扎特第35、40和41交响乐以及勃拉姆斯第一交响乐一起,构成了卡拉扬早年交响乐录音的全部曲目。对比他以后的交响乐录音,我们不难发现,卡拉扬早期指挥纯粹的大型交响乐的能力还是远远逊于他后来的水准。但如果我们不是太刻意的去挑剔和对比这些录音的话,我们仍然可以从他精准的指挥和平衡的层次感,以及卡拉扬苦心创造的宏大气势里,领会到一代指挥帝王锋芒初现的魄力和雄心。
相比起来,一些短小的歌剧序曲或是间奏曲选段更能体现卡拉扬在这一时期的艺术魅力。1939年2月录制的威尔第《命运之力》的序曲是他的第二个正式录音,相距他的首次录音——1938年12月9日的莫扎特《魔笛》序曲仅仅3个月时间,然而相比于他第一个录音稍显仓促的处理,《命运之力》序曲呈现出的完全是一个高度成熟的指挥家的特质和优点。在这个录音里,我们能够听到张弛有度的整体结构,细致入微的刻画,以及在这毫无瑕疵的演奏中饱含着的足以打动任何一位听者的丰富感情。这不禁让我想起他在EMI最早一批录音中的马斯卡尼的《乡村骑士》的间奏曲,这两个录音虽然年代久远,但却是卡拉扬一生浩如烟海的录音之中的极品。只有细细品味的人才能够从中获取莫大的满足,以及对大师深深的佩服。
1942年10月21日录制的小Johann Strauss的《吉普赛男爵序曲》我认为可以代表卡拉扬早期录音的最高水平,也可以说是“卡拉扬之声”初步形成的标志——厚重的弦乐和响亮而富有弹性的拨奏,精彩的木管乐独奏, 准确的速度和到位的休止符,各个声部完美的结合,流畅的抒情段落和激昂澎湃的高潮,气势磅礴而丝毫不杂乱的尾声——这也是其后几十年卡拉扬与柏林爱乐一直保持并不断改进的特色。
细细品味这个录音,你能发现卡拉扬是如何将一首短小的舞台作品创造成为具有丰富色彩的音乐会曲目,而正因为卡拉扬的这种特别的禀赋,使不少鲜为人知或者是其他指挥家不屑于研究的小品焕发了夺目的光彩,最终真正成为音乐会的热门曲目。卡拉扬本人对这首序曲,以及他在两个月以后录制的《蝙蝠》序曲,也一直指挥到了他艺术生涯的最后。在1987年的新年音乐会上,他也再次演绎这两首序曲,当然风格已经完全不同,这是后话了。
录制于1943年9月14日的理查斯特劳斯歌剧《莎乐美》中的选段——《七纱舞》展示了卡拉扬塑造完美的乐队色彩和烘托鲜明音乐风格的能力。作为一名纯正的德奥学派的指挥家,卡拉扬指挥任何带有民族音乐色彩的作品都游刃有余。无论是斯拉夫民族或是阿拉伯风格,还是俄罗斯特色的音乐特征,在卡拉扬的手下都显得“原汁原味”,并且还融合了指挥家个人精雕细琢的渲染,可以说是有独特的美感。很难有第二位指挥家能像卡拉扬这样,擅长如此广泛的曲目和如此多样的风格,而这一点在卡拉扬指挥生涯的早期就已经显露出来,为成就他将来伟大的事业生涯奠定了基础。


第四部分.其他录音

卡拉扬&古尔德 - 贝多芬第三钢琴协奏曲


专辑介绍:

这是一个传奇的录音。
卡拉扬与古尔德组合,给人的第一印象一定是极其不协调的。一个是工整严谨的德奥大师,另一个则是古灵精怪的钢琴怪杰。然而,他们两人却对对方的艺术都十分欣赏。所以古尔德1958年在柏林首演,就是和卡拉扬合作,曲目则是巴赫的D小调钢琴协奏曲。
这里的贝多芬第三钢琴协奏曲的录音时间是在1957年。卡拉扬和古尔德可谓刚刚进入他们事业的辉煌时代,两人有着同样的情绪和精神风貌,自然合作也是一流的水准。要说这个录音有多少出彩的地方,其实也不见得。但是我们可以在第一乐章看到卡拉扬无比细腻而谦逊的伴奏,古尔德则是天马行空的流畅。而第二乐章的漫步,我想卡拉扬是所有指挥家中最能给独奏者自由发挥空间的一位了,所以我们能听到古尔德的冥想和卡拉扬宽广开阔的背景,相得益彰。最后一个乐章从开头一直以比较平淡的速度进行,只是到了尾声部分的最后几个小节,我们才终于期待到了卡拉扬异乎寻常的爆发力,这是我听过的所有这部作品的录音中,最好最有气势的尾声!
卡拉扬的爱好者以及古尔德的爱好者不用考虑太多,就单凭这两个人的名字,这个录音都是必听只曲。除了卡拉扬与吉利尔斯,以及托斯卡尼尼与鲁宾斯坦的合作以外,我再也不能想出能与之相提并论的阵容了。
